Received this letter yesterday from Felicity Shah in Victoria:
‘Dear Kurma, thanks for your website. Please tell me, what are those colourful cakes/sweets pictured on the front page of your website?’
‘Dear Felicity, they are traditional Bengali confectionery called Sandesh, made in Bhaktivedanta Manor in England, out of panir cheese and sugar, with some totally natural flavourings like saffron, cardamom, rose, carob, vanilla etc, then wonderfully hand-painted, and finally offered to Krishna.
They are very much sought-after, and taste as wonderful as they look. I photographed them last year whilst visiting London.
They are prepared by a team of ladies headed by the now-elderly Kulangana Dasi, whose daily sweet-cooking for well over twenty years has become world famous.’
