|Mary Atwill is an old ‘pen-pal’ of mine, an eighty-something year-old lady fom Somerset in England who has been corresponding with me for over 15 years. Recently she related the sad story of the sudden illness and death of her only sister.
Mary has been reading the supplementary literature (supplementary to that available in her Christian genre) that I have been sending her for quite a while, and now she asked me to supply her with quotes and information about the soul and reincarnation to make her mind peaceful during her grieving period. The extract below, and yesterday’s by Leo Tolstoy, were part of my reply to her.
“There is no death. How can there be death if everything is part of the Godhead? The soul never dies and the body is never really alive.”
– Isaac Bashevis Singer, Nobel laureate, ‘Stories from Behind the Stove.’
