The Chickpea that Ate Melbourne

Today I was sent yet another letter asking about the halava dessert served in Crossways, Melbourne’s premier Hare Krishna Eating House. I have received so many over the years.

Christine, the girl in Melbourne who sent me the letter, just couldn’t get enough of that yummy hot steaming pudding. No wonder – the stuff is totally additive, as is all prasadam, sacred, sanctified food offered to Krishna with love. I should start a halava fan club.

I still have fond memories of cooking for Crossways. I can still smell the semolina toasting and the delicate aromas of vanilla bean wafting from the custard.
