Byford Cows

Drove with my old friend Trevor and my son Nitai on an early morning expedition to pick up 200 litres of fresh milk from a dairy farm near Byford in Perth’s Serpentine District, a one-hour drive from home.

Road to Byford:

Nitai went off to say good morning to the mothers.

Till the cows come home:

The ladies had just been milked. Trevor hooked up to the giant vat of milk and started filling our spotlessly clean buckets.

creamy milk:

Nitai had a last frolic with the calves before we drove back home.

Went home and made a big batch of panir cheese with 20 litres of the milk.

home made curd cheese:

Then I made some fabulous curd steaks.

Let me know if you’d like the recipe for the curd steaks.
